Second "Mystery Money Buffalo" Winner Gets Cash, Prizes

BUFFALO, NY - If you don't know what the Mystery Money Buffalo contest is all about -- now is the time to learn. One local company is running a month-long treasure hunt and is giving out the clues through Twitter.

A cash and prize giveaway was held Tuesday.

The Mystery Money Buffalo clue was tweeted right at noon as expected.

The tweet read: "Sky, water, it's all here...if there are no waves your boat is in the clear!" The Skyway is in the background of the picture.

Within five minutes of the tweet there was a winner.

"Congratulations, you have found the second hidden cash envelope for mystery money buffalo," said Margaret Overdorf, who works in downtown Buffalo and took some time off from work Tuesday.

Her brothers and sisters were following "MysteryMoneyBuffalo" on Twitter and were texting her where to go.

"There's five of us, so we were able to strategically figure it out together," Overdorf said.

The group first thought the picture was taken from HarborCenter, but nope it wasn't there.

The Overdorf's then realized the picture was taken from the Erie Basin Marina.

"Yeah, I ran, good thing I've been training, ran a 5K on Saturday," Overdorf said.

She's now $180 bucks richer and will get dinner for two at Russell's and a one night stay at Salvatore's Italian Gardens.

The cash and prizes are being given out by Colvin Cleaners in Kenmore. The giveaway will run all month.

"People have been asking me where is it going to be, they keep recommending me place the clue right at their job or their house, um, not going to happen, but we are going to go all over the Buffalo community," said Megan Rechin, an employee for Colvin Cleaners, who has been placing the prizes in locations.

On Saturday, one man won $150 and two Bills tickets, outside Tailgaters in Orchard Park. It took him 15 minutes to find the prize.

The MysteryMoneyBuffalo contest has caught on nationwide on Twitter. Rechin has seen a Twitter follower boom.

"On Thursday night I had five, Friday, 46, and today we hit 4,000 and growing," Rechin said.

Meantime, the Overdorf family is looking for back-to-back wins.

"Now, I gotta send the other brothers and sisters they can run, they can run the distance and get all sweaty and gross," Overdorf said.

Colvin Cleaners is giving the cash and prizes away because it recently won an award for the company's service. There will be more cash and prize giveaways throughout the month with two or three per week. The next giveaway will be Friday, although a time hasn't been announced yet.
