Erie County Executive Pardons Butter Lamb

BUFFALO, NY – With just a few days until Easter, crowds continue to pack into Buffalo's Broadway Market.

That is also where Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz was spotted on Wednesday, but he was there with a specific purpose.

To pardon a Butter Lamb, much like the President pardons a turkey or two around Thanksgiving.

Still, the County Executive would not make the lamb any promises, despite the pardon, saying, "we thought it would be a little bit of fun to 'pardon' the butter lamb, have a little fun during Easter season, and remind everyone about the wonderful traditions we have here in Western New York and to spare a little lamb from Easter dinner. But as I said, it might not make it through Dyngus Day."

And in case you are new to town, Dyngus Day is of course always celebrated on the Monday after Easter.
