Buffalo Public Schools Receive $3.8M Grant

BUFFALO, NY - Congressman Brian Higgins announced Monday morning that a multi-million dollar federal grant has been awarded to the Buffalo Public School District.

Buffalo will receive $3,898,700 as part of 24 nationwide Youth CareerConnect Awards.

The grant money will be used to support efforts to better train students to meet the needs of today's workforce.

The career-focused curriculum is known as STEM, which is named for its emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

"This is the type of education reform we need, getting academia and our workforce training programs together to make sure our kids are graduating with the marketable skills, especially in math and science, they need to compete in a globalized economy," said Congressman Higgins.

Buffalo's grant is part of $107 million announced by the Obama Administration to support collaborative efforts between education agencies, workforce investment boards, higher education facilities and employer partners.
