Police identify woman hit, killed on Sheridan Drive

AMHERST, NY - Police have released the name of the woman who was hit and killed while crossing Sheridan Drive near Country Parkway Saturday night.

They say 67-year old Vanessa Rugg of Clarence was walking in the roadway without identification. She died at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Her car was found nearby in a driveway on a side street Sunday morning.

The driver of the SUV that struck her has not been charged and was not hurt.

Police closed part of Sheridan Drive for several hours while they investigated the scene.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call Amherst Police at 689-1311.
