The Town Board of West Seneca may be able to decide Monday, June 6th on the idea of installing GPS units in some town highway and sanitation trucks to monitor worker performance and fuel usage.
That is an idea that has been some time in the making. It was first proposed by the late Patrick Finnegan who was Highway Superintendent in 2008. Supervisor Wallace Piotrowski says the town did get $50,000 in bond funding and another $50,000 in a state grant to help cover the costs of installation. But the money was never used and the project never went forward. That was a concern to some viewers who contacted our Tipline.
Piotrowski says he did not have the support of the town board so he did not push the plan.
We also checked with current Highway Superintendent Matt English who says he would be fine with the GPS installation if the supervisor and town board want to see it.
So we also reached out to Town Council members Sheila Meegan and Dale Clarke. Meegan said she had no idea the money was available and said she would approve it if the Supervisor or Highway Superintendent bring it up. Clarke said he also would okay the project.
So Piotrowski has in turn decided to place the issue on the agenda for the board meeting on Monday June 6th. We'll be following it.
