NYSCOPBA: Corrections officer assaulted by inmate

BUFFALO, NY - An Attica inmate is accused of striking a correctional officer with a wall monitor at the Erie County Medical Center on Sunday, according to the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association, Inc.

The inmate was being treated at ECMC when he got out of his restraints, ripped the monitor off the wall, and struck the officer in the head. Two officers outside the room were able to get the inmate restrained with help from ECMC Police. The inmate was then moved to another room in the hospital before being transferred back to the Attica Prison.

The officer, who is from the Wende Correctional Facility, was diagnosed with a concussion and muscle strain to his hip.

The inmate is currently serving a 13-year sentence for robbery, burglary and attempted assault.
