Conewango man charged after high speed chase

CONEWANGO N.Y. -- A Cattaraugus County man wanted on multiple felony warrants was charged Friday afternoon after deputies found the man hiding on the roof of a Town of Conewango home.

Austin Wade Slater, 31, was wanted by the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office on a parole violation warrant and for multiple felony warrants, including charges from a high speed chase in Chautauqua County in September, deputies say. He allegedly crashed a vehicle during the chase and fled on foot.

Friday afternoon at about 12:37 p.m., deputies say they took Slater into custody without incident after finding him on the roof of a Pope Road residence.

Slater was taken to the Cattaraugus County Jail and later turned over to Chautauqua County deputies to face charges.
