BUFFALO, N.Y.- It was a homecoming event when the Dallas Stars visited the Buffalo Sabres at the First Niagara Center Monday night.
The game was the first in Buffalo for Lindy Ruff since he was fired by the Sabres and hired by the Dallas Stars. The same was true for Ruff's assistant, James Patrick. But another homecoming attracted far less attention.
While the Sabres played a tribute video for Ruff during the first period, the Zeis family held up a sign that read, "We love the Sabres and the Dallas trainer!"
West Seneca West grad David Zeis is in his 7th season as head athletic trainer for the Stars. Zeis, a life-long hockey player and former collegiate player at The College at Brockport, says it is always exciting coming home.
Zeis says that while he may work for the Stars, he'll always be a Sabres fan.
