ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - With C.J. Spiller's left ankle still sore, and Fred Jackson set to play with a brace on his injured left knee, the Buffalo Bills' third-string running back Tashard Choice is ready in reserve.

Bills head coach Doug Marrone said Spiller is working hard to get ready for Thursday night. "Today he was out there. He went through the walk through with us, the plays and then we had him on the side with the trainers working on a lot of straight line stuff. There's really not a lot of swelling. It's a situation where it's really day-to-day. I'll really know more tomorrow on it. The signs I think I look for as a coach are encouraging. He's out there working; he's trying to get back. That's all you can ask for a player."

Spiller echoed Marrone's comments. "I mean it was just to see where we're at, see how I feel. Tomorrow will be a huge day for us, see what the reaction will be, it felt good, to be honest I didn't think I'd be able to jog today, so that's an encouraging sign. Like Coach said there is not much swelling in there so we are going to continue to do all the treatments I can do, like I said position myself to play."

Choice is preparing for the possibility of getting additional playing time Thursday night, when the Bills (2-2) travel to face Cleveland (2-2). This wouldn't be the first time for Choice - and against the Browns, no less. Choice said you have to go there "and ball. If you got out there and lay an egg you won't get any more opportunities. That's the way it is in this league,  NFL, you're not around long if you don't produce.  You have to play well to get more opportunities."

In Week 3 of last season, Choice stepped in for both and finished with 91 yards rushing in a 24-14 win at Cleveland.

In other injury updates Tuesday, cornerback Aaron Williams (bruised back) expects to play. And there's a chance starting safety Jairus Byrd (plantar fasciitis) could be ready after he was listed as practicing fully for the first time this season.
