BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Thomas Burton, the attorney for former Buffalo TV reporter Lorey Schultz, says his client has asked him to "review her options legally" after the Buffalo School Board voted not to approve adding a $115,000 public relations job to this year's budget.
Superintendent Dr. Pamela Brown hired Schultz earlier this month. She had been working in communications for Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown.
Since the position was not included in this year's budget, the school board had to vote on the hire before it was made official.
The district currently has a staffer, Elena Cala, who handles public and media relations. Her salary was recently increased to more than $82,500.
At the most recent board meeting this week, many school board members questioned the hire, given the current economic climate. Dr. Brown said the hire was necessary to improve the district's relations with the media and the community.
