AMHERST, N.Y.- An Amherst business is one of 19 businesses across New York accused of posting fake online reviews.
New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says that the businesses were using made-up profiles or paying others to pose as happy customers.
"These companies were soliciting people to write phony reviews from as far away as Eastern Europe and Bangladesh," said Schneiderman.
The accused companies have agreed to be finned an amount between $2,500 and $100,000 and to stop creating the fake ads.
Schneiderman says Utilities International Incorporated of Amherst has agreed to pay a $43,000 fine.
