MAYVILLE, N.Y.- Health officials in Chautauqua County say the mosquitoes carrying the Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus, or EEE, are expected to die off with the cold weather.
Last week a horse in Chautauqua county was diagnosed with the virus.
It was the first of EEE ever recorded in the southern tier and the first case of the disease in New York State this year.
In the last 40 years there have only been four reported cases of EEE in humans. All of those cases however, have been fatal.
