BUFFALO, N.Y.-Canisius senior running back Qadree Ollison verbally committed to the University of Pittsburgh Monday afternoon.
Ollison made the announcement in front of friends and teammates in the school auditorium. Standing at the podium with the lights shining on him Ollison reached down for a hat and said "I have decided on the University at Pittsburgh."
Before making the announcement Ollision told only one person his choice and that was his brother. Ollison is very close with his dad and he didn't even tell him. He did thank his father Wayne for all the hard work he did helping him get recruited. "I'd like to thank my dad, he spent countless amounts of money taking me to all these colleges on all these visits and to camps and things like that and I'd really like to give a hand for him and all the things he's done for me."
Ollison, from Niagara Falls New York had a huge year as a junior with 1,876 yards and 26 touchdowns. In the season opener against McQuaid Ollison ran for 195 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries in a 42-15 Crusaders victory.
Ollison said he feels like he'll be stepping right into a competitive situation at Pittsburgh. "They run a pro style offense and some two back and things like that. And they actually have room for running backs. They don't have a strong dominant running back right now so that will give me an opportunity to go in there and compete for a job early."
Syracuse and Penn State were among Ollison's five finalists. National letter of intent signing day is February 5 2014. On that day Ollison expects to make it official and sign with the Pittsburgh Panthers.
Ollison has not decided on a major.
