BUFFALO, NY - A line of severe storms moved through Niagara and Erie counties late Monday afternoon, and were capable of producing damaging winds. 

Lightning struck a transformer on French Road in Cheektowaga. Live wires were reported down.  Wires were also reported down in Niagara Falls from the strong winds.

Thousands of people lost power from the damaging winds and lightning strikes.  Most power has been restored.

The National Weather Service criteria for a Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Hail size of at least 1 inch, and/or wind gusts of at least 58 mph, and/or a tornado.
