A line was out the door at Holy Angels Academy as people were looking to get their hands on items inside while also saying good bye.

"It's really sad. It's a really great place to be. I enjoyed going to school here," Lindsey Schwab said.

Saturday 700 registered bidders stepped up to the auction block purchasing 11-hundred items up for grabs. Everything sold including the 60,000 square foot building.

"I think it's a nice buy for the purchaser and a good deal for the school," Cash Cunningham said.

That purchaser is well known businessman and Buffalo School Board member Carl Paladino.

Paladino purchased the academy for 2.9 million dollars plus a 5 percent buyer's premium.

Paladino did not comment on what he plans on doing with facility, but he was seen purchasing gymnasium equipment as well.

Other school leaders in Western New York also showed up to grab items they can use.

"First I can recognize the struggle the principal has gone through to try and keep the doors open --provide a quality education and serve her community," Principal Michael Caban said.

After more than 150 years, Holy Angels decided to close at the end of the last school year due to low enrollment. 240 students were in classes at the time.

"It's difficult in upstate new york because of the demographic changes -- catholic families are not as large as they once were -- can't support at levels once were," Beth Powers said.

Yet a new beginning for this place is around the corner.

But it's still hard for people to let go.

"It's kind of sad. I haven't been here in a couple of years so it's hard to see it being auctioned away," Veronica Galante said.
