BUFFALO, NY - It has been 25 days since City of Buffalo inspectors condemned the warehouse which houses the not-for-profit Buffalo ReUse Corporation for safety and licensing violations.

The building contains no working fire alarm system or working sprinkler system according to the notices posted by city inspectors at the building's entrance.

"One of the things the city gave us was a list of things we needed to do to reopen our doors as soon as possible and that was that we had to establish an active functioning fire alarm system," said Buffalo ReUse Executive Director Kitty Lambert-Rudd. "The fire alarm system there currently in the building is not functional. The second thing that we had to do is purchase 15 fire extinguishers - those are about $100 each."

Another notice states that the organization failed to obtain a city license to operate as a second-hand goods dealer.

"We have our permits in hand now, I'm very excited. I went to pick them up the other day and it was one of those celebratory moments, we were very excited," said Lambert-Rudd.

The nonprofit organization which was there to help the community, is now calling on the community to help Buffalo ReUse raise funds to purchase the needed fire alarm system and fire extinguishers to help Buffalo ReUse get back into the business of helping out the Buffalo community.

"The community can help out by remembering that we have been here a long time. We intend to be a part of this community for a long time. We do a great deal of good things in this community and there are a lot of people who are very dependent upon us."

Those interested in helping Buffalo ReUse can contact Kitty Lambert-Rudd by phone at 716-578-3782.
