Lockport, NY - In this week's Unique Places, we take a trip back in time to a hotdog stand that offers retro prices and cool treats.
Reid's in Lockport has been serving up hotdogs and hamburgers for more than 50 years.
"Well, I would say two things really make our restaurant different than most. One, our food. We've used the same food and the same products for the last 40, 50 years that we've been open. So nothing changes, and I think that's one of the main reasons everyone comes back. The other reason I would say is the way we serve the customers. We have no computers, no pencil and paper. Everything is done by memory and everybody talks to the customer one-on-one. It's really unique compared to everything else," says Jon Reid.
Reid's grandfather opened Reid's many decades ago.
"How did you get started in the business?" asked Kelly Dudzik.
"Well, we opened in 1946. My grandfather and his brother opened the restaurant, and it's been in our family up until today. He recently passed away, and now our family, my dad, my aunt and my uncle all still own Reid's, and it's still in our family," says Reid.
"And, the prices, talk about those because you don't see these prices very often," says Dudzik.
"No, you don't usually see prices like this. We've actually been relatively able to keep our prices the same for the past ten years. It's really something that we're proud of and we strive to make sure we're the cheapest hotdog and hamburger in town," says Reid.
If you go to Reid's be sure to bring cash - because it is cash only.
