ELMA, N.Y.- They train in Elma, play their home games in Rochester and tout the biggest name in women's soccer.
The WNY Flash has become a home for stars. Two years ago, international superstar Marta played for the Flash. Last season it was Alex Morgan, and this summer a huge homecoming. The all-time leading goal scorer in international competition has returned to her roots and eyes an NWSL championship for the Flash.
Abby Wambach was raised in the Rochester area and has risen through the ranks of soccer stardom. After the retirement of Mia Hamm, Wambach was the heir apparent and rose to the occasion. In addition to her scoring record of 160 international goals, Wambach has two Olympic golds, an NCAA title and has her sights set on a World Cup crowm in 2015.
While the World Cup is her long-term dream, at present, she and fellow National Team star Carli Lloyd are doing all they can to bring home a championship to Western New York.
