BUFFALO, NY - A motorcycle operator was killed early Friday evening after he was hit by a sports utility vehicle in the city's Fillmore/Leroy neighborhood.
Police say the collision happened at the intersection of Leroy Avenue and Holden Street around 7:15 p.m.
Buffalo Police Accident Investigators Martin Forero and Keith LaFalce say the crash occurred as the motorcyclist was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed on Leroy Avenue when a Dodge Durango S.U.V. turned into the motorcycle's path.
Police say 40-year-old Sonny Lee Hollingsworth of Buffalo was operating the motorcycle.
Police spokesperson Michael DeGeorge originally stated the Hollingsworth died at the scene, but revised his original statement saying Hollingsworth died at Erie County Medical Center.
The Erie County Medical Examiner says the victim died of blunt force injuries.
The driver of the SUV and his passenger sought treatment from Erie County Medical Center. They have been released from the hospital.
Police are not releasing their names at this time.
Another motorcyclist was riding along side of Hollingsworth and missed the Durango. He was not injured.
Police say no charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
