LOCKPORT, NY -
Update: The City of Lockport Mayor's Office says that the driving ban in the City of Lockport due to flooding has been lifted early Saturday morning.
Mayor Michael Tucker tells 2 On Your Side the city is experiencing heavy street flooding following an afternoon downpour. Cars trying to drive through the water are stalling out and causing traffic to back up.
Some of the worst areas in the city are Market Street and Lincoln at Transit Road. Mayor Tucker says hundreds of basements in the city are also flooded.
The land surveying company of McIntosh and McIntosh also flooded Friday. Family members from three generations worked for several hours to pump water out of the basement office. They do not have flood insurance and say the office floods every time it rains hard.
First responders from at least ten agencies helped Lockport police and firefighters Friday night at a command center at City Hall.
Lockport Police want you to call them if your gas is impacted by the floods. Medical emergencies are top priority. They can be reached at (716) 433-7700.
