BUFFALO, NY-- Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown officially kicked off the 12th Annual Summer Reading Challenge.
The program is aimed to help children improve reading and writing skills.
"My annual summer reading challenge is creating a generation of children who love to read and will continue to love books throughout their lives," says Mayor Brown in a statement.
Last year, more than 1,500 children completed the challenge, reading over 11,000 books!
The program is open to any child in grades K-12 from any school districts in WNY. Children who complete the challenge are invited to a prize ceremony in the fall.
