ORCHARD PARK, NY--  Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly is recovering well following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his jaw.

Kelly spoke to reporters at the Ralph Wilson Fieldhouse at the start of his annual football camp on Monday.

Kelly says last week his doctors told him he does not need either chemotherapy or radiation as follow up treatment to the surgery.

Kelly will now see his doctors every two months for CT scans and other tests to make sure the cancer has not recurred.

Kelly says he lost most of his upper jaw on the left side and most of his front and back teeth during the surgery.

He says he is still sore and has a long recovery process.  He hasn't been able to eat solid food yet and has lost 14 pounds.

Kelly says he's been overwhelmed by the support he's recieved from the Western New York community.

"The prayers, there's not enough words to describe the feelings in my heart and my family's heart how much it means to me that people took the time out to e-mail me, write me hundreds and hundreds of letters and the prayers have been answered because of the things I don't have to go through now," said Kelly.
