BUFFALO, N.Y. - This past weekend thousands of people participated in the Ride for Roswell to raise money for Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
Among them will be Craig Wittmann. Sadly, he and his family are no strangers to cancer.
Nine years ago he lost his mother to lung cancer after a four year battle with the disease.
Four years ago he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He underwent months of treatment at Roswell Park, and now he is in remission.
Last year was Wittmann's first time taking part in the Ride for Roswell. It was a way for him to honor his mother and celebrate his improving health.
When he signed up for this year's Ride for Roswell, he never imagined he would soon be riding in memory of his father.
Wittmann's dad was diagnosed with late-stage stomach cancer just three days after he signed up for the ride. Five weeks later, his dad lost his fight.
Wittmann raised $3,000, which goes toward cancer research and programs at Roswell Park.
