BUFFALO, NY-- ECMC is creating a memorial as a permanent memory of a beloved employee.
It was one year ago that ECMC secretary Jackie Wisniewski was shot and killed in a hospital stairwell by her ex boyfriend, ECMC Dr. Timothy Jorden.
Employees remembered her with a moment of silence, and created a display to raise awareness about domestic violence lines the hallways.
The hospital is also building a peace garden and this bench dedicated to Jackie will be a permanent fixture there.
"It's a tragic event but there's lessons to be learned from that event. So we wanted to forever have a place where our employees, our family, can go. And they can pray and they can collect their thoughts and it's a peace garden. And no one's better represented by that than Jackie," says Jody Lomeo, CEO of ECMC.
ECMC has also made several changes to security in the year since the tragic shooting, including security changes and efforts to raise awareness about domestic violence.
