BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Sabres director of amateur scouting Kevin Devine told WGR Radio Wednesday morning that GM Darcy Regier has had discussions with the Colorado avalanche about the top overall pick in the draft.

It's no secret the Sabres have been looking to move up from the 8th overall position they currently hold. When Patrick Roy took over as head coach and VP of hockey operations in Colorado, he said the Avs should look at the possibility of trading away the top pick.

At the very least, the Sabres are trying to gauge how serious the Avalanche are, and what the cost might be.

The draft comes up June 30th.
