Clarence, NY - Monday night, the Superintendent of Clarence Schools revealed the dozens of high school and middle school clubs that will be cut if voters approve the latest budget proposal and tax increase next week.

At a public hearing on the budget, Superintendent Geoffrey Hicks said that clubs ranging from the Stage Band at the high school, to the Show Choir and Art Club at the middle school, will go if the budget passes on the re-vote.

Cutting the clubs would save the district $122,000 next year by cutting advisors' stipends.

The school board is asking voters to approve a 3.62-percent tax increase after a nearly ten-percent tax increase proposal failed last month.

Community members voiced concerns about the clubs possibly getting cut at Monday's meeting.

"Does this mean there will be no fall play for the high school?" asked one concerned community member.

"No, it does not mean that. The advisors for the fall play, including the stage craft and the stage crew are still within the budget and we're going to have to create some type of substitute for the kinds of things the drama club did to produce that production. But we're in the midst, the musical and the fall play, musical in both schools, Clarence Middle School and Clarence High School, still in the budget. Fall play for the high school still in the budget," replied a school board member.

The Clarence school budget vote is next Tuesday. More than 50-percent of the voters have to approve it in order for it to pass since it is under the state cap. Reductions for the re-vote budget total an additional $2.45 million. The budget that failed in May included $1.8 million of reductions.

The CHS Clubs cut in the re-vote budget include: Art Partners, Chorus Club, Community Service Organizer, Drama Club, Environmental Club, Foreign Language Club, Future Business Club, Future Teachers Club, Garden Club, Helping Hands, History Club, Interact, Latin Club, Media Club, Orchestra Club, Reach Out Club, Scholastic Club, Stage Band (Jazz), Summer Band, Technology Club, Varsity Club, Asst. Musical Director, Asst. Yearbook Advisor.

The CMS Clubs cut in the re-vote budget include: Art Club, Assets Committee, Chess Club, Clarence Service, Drama - Art Club, Drama - Dance, Home & Careers Club, Asst. Musical Director, Quiz Bowl, Science Club, Show Choir, Stage Band, Strategic Games Club, Student Leadership, Vocal Pop Chorus
