BUFFALO, NY - It was a clear but cool morning for the annual "Trot With The Troops" run organized by Operation Patriot. Active-duty and veteran military personnel joined with civilians for a formation run, with full cadence call-and-return.

The mini-boot camp honors soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country and raises funds for the charity. Operation Patriot lends support to service members returning from combat and veterans who have run afoul of the law.

"Memorial Day is not really about barbecues or furniture sales," said Mark Rossney, the founder and driving force behind Operation Patriot. "It's for the fallen, for the troops who served this country and are no longer with us."

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown attended the event at the downtown Naval Park Saturday morning, and Buffalo council member Bonnie Russell sang the national anthem at a ceremony which preceded the military march.
