TORONTO (AP) - The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled Anthony Gose from Triple-A, even though the outfield prospect was hitting .227 with two homers and five steals this season in Buffalo.

The Blue Jays optioned right-hander Mickey Storey to Buffalo. Storey appeared in two games for Toronto, allowing three runs in 3 2-3 innings.

Gose, who hit .223 in 56 major league games with Toronto last season, says he is "definitely surprised" by the call-up.

With the Blue Jays, Gose will help take the load off of Melky Cabrera, coming in as defensive replacement late in games so Cabrera can rest his balky hamstring.

Toronto manager John Gibbons says he doesn't know if Gose will be a short- or long-term addition, saying "we'll see how it develops."
