WILLIAMSVILLE, NY -- It's no secret.  Main Street in the Village of Williamsville can be a mess with a lot of traffic during peak commute times.

if village trustees have their way, Main Street will be getting a complete facelift.

The new plan seeks to reclaim Main Street for the pedestrian, while preserving its ability to safely and efficiently handle a large volumes of traffic.  Some of the changes include streetscape enhancements including traffic light signals, new trees, narrower distances for pedestrians to cross main street, and new medians.

"You really want it to be a walkable village, that is in vogue these days, mixed use development, more pedestrian friendly, which is where you are heading, with all the trees planting along Main Street," said State Senator Michael Ranzenhofer (R-Amherst).

The plan has been submitted to the state Department of Transportation for approval and the village board hopes to adopt it soon.
