BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Add State Senator Tim Kennedy to the list of lawmakers who want the Skyway torn down.
On Thursday Kennedy called on the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council to make the removal of the Skyway a top economic priority for the region.
Kennedy believes removing the Skyway will open up new development opportunities along Buffalo's waterfront, leading to further economic progress and job creation at the water's edge.
Kennedy's comments come one day after the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation unveiled plans to use the Skyway as part of its illumination display to enhance and attract more people to the Skyway. The agency lists a $1.3 Million dollar costs for design and installation of the Skyway lights.
Kennedy told 2 On Your Side that the state should do everything it can to immediately brighten the waterfront and that removing the Skyway is a long term effort
Congressman Brian Higgins has also called for the Skyway to be torn down.
