BUFFALO, NY - The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation approved Wednesday a contract for a year-round light show on the Buffalo waterfront.
The contract allows for Phase 1 of a master plan for various lighting installation along the waterfront to begin.
The first phase of the project includes illuminating the Connecting Terminal grain elevator, located across the water from Canalside, as well as lighting for the Skyway and Ohio Street bridge.
The first phase of the concept for the Connecting Terminal calls for a kinetic lighting installation, similar to the Aurora Borealis Project in Quebec City, that will operate year round. The light show would evolve and transform the structure into a "contemplative artistic lighting installation and keep visitors coming back to the site to see the different light sequences while enjoying their time at Canalside."
The ECHDC says final design and construction of lighting for the Michigan Street bridge and the General Mills complex could also begin if phase 1 of the project is under budget and outside funding is secured.
