BUFFALO, N.Y.-Saturday afternoon at Nichols Clarence beat the Vikings 9-to-4 in a non-league boys lacrosse matchup.
Nichols took an early 3-1 lead but the Red Devils roared back to take a 4-3 just before the end of the first half. Nichols tied it at 4 with 7:58 remaining in the third quarter on a goal by # 19 Ryan Petro. Jacob Parentis assisted on the goal.
The tie lasted less than three minutes. With five minutes remaining in the third quarter Clarence took the lead for good. # 25 Lex Oaks scored off an assist from Matt Colickia. Clarence added four more goals to win it going away 9-to-4.
# 21 Michael Roth had three goals and an assist for Clarence.
With the win Clarence improves to 7-3 on the season. Head coach Mike Silverstein told Two On Your Side's Stu Boyar "we settled down in the second half .We got impatient offensively against their zone and then settled down in the second half. In the first half we took bad shots and didn't look for a good shot."
Clarence has a rematch with Orchard Park this Wednesday. The Quakers won their first meeting 18-10. Silverstein told Stu "they are the cream of the crop in Class A. Its a game you always mark on your calender. We have to go out there and play our best lacrosse in prime time."
Nichols drops to 5-7 on the season. Head coach Rob Strickland told Stu " if we did a better job of possessing the ball on offense for the full game the outcome may have different."
