BUFFALO, NY-- A Buffalo teen accused of setting fire to a puppy has admitted to his role in the crime.
Adell Ziegler, 19, pleaded guilty Monday to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
Ziegler admitted that he poured lighter fluid on a Jack Russell Terrier puppy that was set on fire last October. The puppy, named Phoenix, suffered serious burns to more than 50% of his body.
"Because of the efforts of veterinary professionals like Dr. Wagner, the life of a helpless puppy was saved. Because of the efforts of law enforcement professionals like Ms. St. Mary, a demented and remorseless animal abuser was prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," says Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita in a statement.
Ziegler could face up to two years in prison when he is sentenced in June.
Ziegler's accomplice, Diondre Brown, 17, also pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty.
