Benjamin Wassell in Court
Silver Creek, NY - A Chautauqua County Grand Jury will now hear the case of a Town of Hanover man who is accused of violating the state's new SAFE Act law.
Benjamin Wassell was back in Hanover Town Court Wednesday as his case was officially transferred to the county court for a potential indictment. Specifically he is accused of breaking the law after a state police undercover officer said Wassell tried to sell him two banned assault weapons without requesting a background check.
Meanwhile Defense Attorney Mike Deal claims prosecutors and police have tried to unfairly label his client as a dangerous man.
About 20 people showed up today to again support Wassell. Some say they intend to follow the case all the way to trial if need be because they feel he is being unfairly singled out.
Wassell faces up to seven years in prison if convicted on all charges.
