BUFFALO, NY - Re-Tree WNY volunteers were out in force early Saturday morning with the goal of getting 60 young trees into the ground before spring gets into full gear. They were working the Buffalo Niagara Medical Corridor.

Turnout was so good they had the trees planted before our cameras could get there!

2 On Your Side's Kelly Dudzik caught up with Re-Tree's chair Paul Maurer as the work was wrapping up, and she followed a group of enthusiastic volunteers to a second planting on the city's West Side seeking to continue the momentum.

You can watch her complete report in tonight's 6 p.m. newscast.

Re-Tree WNY is the group that formed in the wake of the freak October Suprise storm in 2006 that devastated Buffalo's urban forest. Their goal is to restore all the damage that was done for the health and enjoyment of future generations.

They're still looking for volunteers for the rest of the spring plantings. Go to the Re-Tree WNY website at for more information.
