NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. - Firefighters say two people died Monday night in a house fire on 3rd Avenue near Oliver Street in North Tonawanda.
It started shortly before 10 p.m. When police arrived at the scene, they were told there were people trapped inside.
Firefighters entered and found the two victims near the two entrances of the home.
The victims were identified as Dorothy Burns, 84, and her daughter Kathleen Watson, 62.
Rescuers say there was a lot of clutter in the home, and they initially had a difficult time getting through the door.
First responders performed CPR on the pair, but one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was pronounced dead at DeGraff Memorial Hospital.
There is still no word on what caused the fire.
Neighbors tell 2 On Your Side's Aaron Saykin they heard a loud bang when the fire started, but fire officials couldn't confirm.
