BUFFALO, NY-A Buffalo man has admitted stabbing his wife in front of their child during a vicious attack last year at the Amherst Street Wegmans.

The Erie County District Attorney's office said Awet Gebreyesus pleaded guilty to attempted murder. The child was not hurt.

The victim's wounds were so serious, she needed to be hospitalized for two weeks after. District Attorney Frank Sedita praised the actions of witnesses who, he says, prevented the woman's murder. "Because of their bravery, the victim survived the defendant's vicious attack."

Gebreyesus faces up to 25 years behind bars when sentenced in May. Sedita says he will also likely be deported after serving his time.
