BUFFALO, NY - Bernard Tolbert may not have name recognition like the Mayor of Buffalo, but he has credentials that could make him a strong contender for the city's top job.
Tolbert has not formally announced that he is running for Mayor, but he did tell 2 On Your Side's Claudine Ewing that he "filed papers with the Board of Elections to establish a finance committee.
Tolbert's move is a strong indication that there could be a Mayoral primary for incumbent Byron Brown.
"It wasn't intended to be a signal that I am running," he said. "It's just that enough people have talked to me about wanting to support me, some financially."
Tolbert would not say if any major fundraisers are planned across the state for him.
The former head of the Buffalo FBI office also worked for Coca Cola in Atlanta and the NBA in top security positions. If he did run for Mayor his background in law enforcement could serve as strong crime fighting plan for the city.
"I think we all have an obligation to do what we can to make things better. In some way, shape or form that's my plan, whether it is through public office or some other effort, that is why I am here," said Tolbert.
