BUFFALO, N.Y.- It's a post-Easter tradition that seems to get bigger and bigger every year and Monday's Dyngus Day festivities throughout WNY was no exception.

Historically, the day is a celebration of Polish-American cuture and marks the end of the restrictions of the Lenten season. But like many ethnic holidays throughout the area, everyone and anyone is invited and encouraged to participate.

From heaping plates full of traditional Polish food, a kielbasa tasting contest and parade, Western New Yorkers got their Dyngus on at several dozen locations. The day got underway with a Dyngus Day mass at Corpus Christi Church on Clark Street in Buffalo.

Festivities wrapped up with the first ever Dyngus Day fireworks over the heart of Polonia in the vicinity of Memorial Drive and Peckham Street.
