BUFFALO, N.Y - In Buffalo's Common council chambers Tuesday, a young man was asked to come "front-and-center" for a very special recognition.
DeMaris Scarver is 6 years old, and if the young cub scout was getting a badge, it would have been for saving a life. DeMaris' mom is diabetic - and recently, when she had a diabetic episode, he didn't sit around, he picked up the phone and called 9-1-1.
"The operator asked him what was the emergency," his mother Dinesha Scarver said. "He said my mom is diabetic and she's low and I can't wake her up. And she asked him, is she breathing? He said yes, And she said wait for the first responders to come, and that's what he did."
DeMaris received a proclamation from the city recognizing his quick thinking.
