AMHERST, NY - A 31 year-old man is facing charges Friday morning after allegedly driving drunk and hitting a previously crashed vehicle. The crash injured two motorists who had stopped to exchange insurance information after an earlier collision.
Town of Tonawanda Police tell 2 On Your Side that two vehicles got into a minor accident on Niagara Falls Boulevard near Dexter Terrace around 11 p.m. Thursday.
While the drivers were exchanging information, a third vehicle driven by Matthew T. Miller, 31, approached south on Niagara Falls Boulevard and hit one of the cars, while the driver was writing information. She was partially ejected and was pinned for some time. Rescue crews rushed her to ECMC with head injuries, broken bones and internal injuries. Her name has not been released.
Both drivers from the original accident were injured in the second collision. The driver of the other vehicle suffered a broken arm, police said.
Miller fled the scene following the accident and was caught a short distance away. He refused a blood test and a judge's order had to be requested. He was taken to ECMC for the blood test.
He is charged with leaving the scene of an accident and DWI. He was in custody in the Town of Tonawanda police station awaiting his initial court appearance Friday morning.
Accident investigators are working with the Erie County District Attorney's Office to collect more evidence, and further charges may be filed.
