Wednesday afternoon, a few parishioners started gathering at the Our Lady of Victory Basilica to pray for the new Pope.

While the world waited for the announcement of the new Pope Wednesday afternoon, the Basilica was getting ready for a wedding. We watched the live television coverage with Rev. Msgr. Paul Burkard in the rectory.

Burkard expected a Cardinal from either Milan or Rio to be named, so Pope Francis became quite the surprise for him.

"It's a real dark horse. I don't think anyone would've expected him. He was probably in the top twenty names of people who were possible to be elected, but I don't think anyone would have put him in the top five," says Rev. Msgr. Paul Burkard.

Burkard travels to Rome and the Vatican two to three times a year to push for sainthood for Father Baker, and you can be sure he will continue to do that with the naming of the new Pope.
