Tax troubles for hundreds of thousands of people who filed tax returns with H&R Block
The nation's largest tax preparer admits it made a mistake related to form-8863 for the educational tax credit.
H&R Block says the filing problem impacts some 600,000 customers who filed between February 14th and February 22nd.
The IRS continues to process effected returns, but those returns will be delayed because of the process necessary to correct the errors.
The filing error and delay is also creating concern among college students applying for financial aid, which requires tax information.
So far H&R Block has not said whether it plans to offer rebates or other compensation to those filers impacted.
They posted this statement on their Facebook page:
H&R Block has confirmed with the IRS that there was an issue with certain tax returns filed before February 22, 2013 that included certain education tax credits claimed on Form 8863. We have worked with the IRS to expedite a solution to this issue for all of our affected clients.
