BUFFALO, NY--A Sanborn man accused of passing bad checks while posing as a serviceman deploying overseas, has plead guilty.
Steven Burns, 22, plead guilty to scheme to defraud.
Investigators say Burns entered banks dressed in his military uniform and told the teller that he was taking care of a sick relative, was deploying oversees and needed the cash immediately.
Officials say Burns, who was listed as AWOL from his reserve unit at the time of his arrest, used the money for gambling.
Burns scammed more than $4,000 from First Niagara, Evans and Key Banks.
Burns will be sentenced in May. He faces up to 1-1/3 to 4 years in prison.
