BUFFALO, NY - Buffalo firefighters were kept busy Saturday morning by two unrelated house fires that broke out in different neighborhoods at about the same time.

2 On Your Side was at the scene of a smoky fire at 384 Herman Street on the East Side around 9 a.m. when dispatchers reported a call of another fire, this one at 72 Dempster Street in the Lovejoy District.

Raw video from the Herman Street fire is in the video player above.

Firefighters at the scene of the Herman Street fire said the home was packed with "combustibles" which made access difficult and contributed to the smoke that could be seen from miles away.

To further complicate matters, there was not enough water pressure for the hoses until the city engineer arrived to fix the problem.

The home, valued at about $40,000, is considered a total loss.

Damage to the Demspter Street home is estimated at about $50,000, with another $25,000 in damage to the contents of the building. Two adults and three children from Dempster Street are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
