An Australian mining tycoon is building a replica of the doomed ocean liner Titanic.

The story of Titanic is legendary.

The "unsinkable ship" sank more than a hundred years ago when it crashed into an iceberg while crossing the Atlantic from England to New York.

Now it seems Titanic will sail again.

Chairman of the Blue Star Line shipping company Clive Palmer says the Titanic II will be the safest cruise line in the world when it sets sail in 2016.

Palmer says the replica's maiden voyage will follow the ill-fated Titanic's original planned route.

"I think it'll be really great. It's a six-day voyage across from Southampton to New York. ... We've got 40,000 people already who have registered for tickets, so there is a strong desire to do it."

Palmer unveiled plans for the exact replica earlier this week.

He says he's not worried about superstitious folks who may think it's a bad idea to rename any vessel Titanic.

More than 1,500 people died when the original Titanic went down in early April of 1912.
