Volunteers at Work Delivering Sign
BUFFALO, N.Y.- As the need grows, the funding declines, so that puts more and more emphasis on the need for volunteers. It is a reality faced by just about every nonprofit group in the country.
Here in WNY, the good news is that there are plenty of people willing to give of themselves. 21.3 percent of us volunteer our time or services.
The big challenge is linking the right person with the right opportunity. Adam Bartoszek works to do just that. Bartoszek is the Volunteer Center Program Manager at The Service Collaborative. "Potential volunteers don't volunteer because they haven't been asked. You have to ask that question in a thousand different ways" says Bartoszek.
The Volunteer Center works with literally hundreds of nonprofit groups from Niagara County to Jamestown. They rely heavily on social media, be it e-alerts, Facebook or Twitter.
"You have to use every resource available, and the trend right now is most agencies are using social media."
