BUFFALO, N.Y. - A proposed project for the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, known as Conventus, was denied $4.4 million in sales and mortgage tax breaks Tuesday by the Erie County Industrial Development Agency.

The vote was 9-4 withone member not casting a vote.  10 votes are needed for the tax breaks to be granted.

The members who voted against it were concerned that the proposal, developed by LP Ciminelli, only included office space and not space for medical innovation or research.  Board members say tax breaks can't be offered to medical offices.
The board agreed to table the request for tax breaks.

Board members say they are willing to look at the proposal next month if Ciminelli tweaks the proposal to include medical research.
