AMHERST, N.Y.-Williamsville South opened the game up with a 23-0 run on Friday night against Sweet Home and cruised to victory 72-53. Sweet Home got down early and they weren't able to recover despite an outstanding performance by by #10 Michael Torrillo on senior night. Torrillo had a game high 28 points for the Panthers.
The Billies made a statement by starting the game with such a big run, which was orchestrated by senior guard #2 Chaq Nettles. Nettles had an impressive performance scoring 23 points, only days after signing to play football at Robert Morris University.
Damien Powers added 16 points and 14 rebounds for South.
Williamsville South Head Coach Gabe Michael said " This was our best game of the year, we started the game with a 23-0 run, and came out with so much energy".
Channel 2's Stu Boyar asked Sweet Home Head Coach Scott Martin if he had ever seen anything like the 23-0 run before, he said " No, certainly not done to us, we've done it to others, but hopefully this will help us refocus".
Sweet Home drops to 13-3 overall, and 10-1 in the ECIC. Williamsville South improves to 12-4 overall, 9-2 in ECIC play. The Billies next game will be at home against Iroquois on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
