AMHERST, N.Y. - The Kenmore girls varsity hockey team has now won two Section VI titles. Not bad, when you consider the team and the league (Girls Varsity Hockey Federation) have only been in existence for three seasons.
Kenmore repeated as champs last night in dramatic fashion. A back and forth barn burner finally ended in the second overtime period when senior forward Alyssa Dollendorf jammed home the winner on a great feed from Jill Battista. Final score, Kenmore 2 - Williamsville 1.
Lauren Pray stopped 35 shots in back-stopping Kenmore to the win and a berth in the state championship tournament.
No rest for the weary though, Kenmore opens the tournament Satursday afternoon vs. Beekmantown in Canton, NY.
Win or lose in that tournament though, they'll play again next week in the Federation play-offs, as will Williamsville. Monsignor Martin goes into the league playoffs as the top seed.
